A Guide for Buying Affordable and Ethical Plain White T-Shirts on eBay and at Thrift Stores

A pile of vintage white t-shirts

This guide will help you purchase affordable and ethical white t-shirts by helping you navigate the market for deadstock basics.

A whole lot of brands have tried to offer ethically and sustainably made basics. But it’s hard to raise the price on something so many are so accustomed to getting so cheap, and brands struggle to sell cheaply something made from quality, ethically sourced materials and made by fairly compensated workers.

A Guide for Buying Vintage Harrington Jackets at Thrift Stores and on eBay

This guide is designed to help you buy a vintage Harrington jacket at a thrift store or on eBay.

Vintage Harrington Jacket

If there’s one garment that sends a blogger into an image-searching tizzy and a defense or an attack or a poorly nuanced commentary on masculinity and style and cool with a capital C-you-later-tonight, it’s the Baracuta G-9.

A whole bunch of famous men wore it. Many of those famous men were certifiable assholes. Others were pretty cool. The characters portrayed by actors wearing the jacket fell somewhere in between.

Stylistically, the jacket itself falls somewhere in between, too. It looks good over a shirt and tie. It looks good over a t-shirt. It fits a little frumpily, or maybe that’s just calculated nonchalance.

The ambivalent history and look speaks to a pressing concern of the contemporary man: Can I be a lovable jerk? No. Be kind all the time. But you can invite suspicion, and we’re here  to help you do it without spending $400. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

Below is a list of terms, brands, and tips to help you buy a vintage Harrington jacket that’s stylish, durable, and affordable. Check out our similar guides on Levi’s Denim Jackets, Flannels, and T-ShirtsContinue reading

The author’s pair of vintage Levi’s 501XX, dated to the early 1990s. If you look closely, you’ll notice that they’re absolutely beautiful and perfect.

The Levi’s 501XX is my and many others’ favorite piece of clothing. It’s about as reliable and timeless and perfect as it gets, and has a well-documented, culturally significant history.

And for that reason, many, many, many people have already written awesome things about Levi’s 501s, and they know a heck of a lot more than I do. Here’s a bunch of interesting links Continue reading

Levi's Denim Trucker Jacket 70506 Size 38

This is what a Levi’s denim trucker jacket looks like on my floor.

This guide is for buying a jacket at a reasonable price and for regular wear. I’m writing for myself, I suppose, and for anyone else looking for an affordable and interesting addition to their wardrobe.

The jacket’s history is well-documented, though, and it’s worth investigating. If you’re interested in collecting and in the historicism of the garment, Denim Hunters has an awesome guide to dating Levi’s jackets.

If you just want to grab a nice jacket, though, keep reading. Most links will bring you to a relevant eBay search.  Continue reading
