Ryan’s Box: Vintage Levi’s 505-0217XX and a chunky ragg sweater!

Chunky Sweater with vintage Levi's 501s

We always get excited when we’re able to match a subscribers expectations. Ryan, for example, asked for light wash denim and chunky sweaters to get him through the San Francisco spring. We’re glad that we had these 1980s 505-0217 XX in stock to go with a snowflake pattern sweater in otherwise un-dyed wool. Sadly, the jeans were a bit too small. But hey, we work with that. Read the full letter below.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for subscribing to Comma, the vintage menswear subscription service! Here’s what you get:

Levi’s 505XX Lightwash Jeans: Ryan, you’re the first person to say they’re looking to experiment with lightwash denim. Lucky for you, I just picked these up a few weeks ago. These are the real deal: Vintage Levi’s 505XX and made in the USA. Based on the tags, I date these to late 1980s. They feature a high rise, zip front, and heavy denim. They’re tagged 34-32, but the waist measures a slight bit smaller. Do wash cold and hang dry these, as there may be some shrinkage in them. Despite the relative lack of color, these will develop fades with regular wear, especially around your city’s hills.

Chunky Sweater: Your survey perfectly fit our supply, turns out. Putting your box together took no more than ten minutes. Here we have a chunky sweater with snowflake pattern on undyed ragg wool. While there are no tags, my experience with similar pieces tells me this is an 85-15 wool-poly blend and made the USA. I do hope the length is there, but hey, you’ve got some higher-than-average rise jeans to make it work.

Some Other Things: I hope you find these fun or useful or both.
