Vintage Wool Flannel, Selvage Bandana

I have a soft spot for connecting with my subscribers’ location. When Jason told me he’s taken up fly-fishing and lives in Philadelphia, this shirt was only ever going to him. As for the flannel: It’s one of the nicest pieces I’ve found this year. Jason recently upgraded from a quarterly to annual subscription, and I’m glad to send it his way.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for subscribing (For a full year!) to Comma, the vintage menswear subscription service! Here’s what you get:

Wool CPO Shirt: I wish I knew more about this piece, but sadly there’s no labels whatsoever. Neverthless, I think the construction speaks for itself: Heavy wool fabric, a cotton twill interior yoke, metal buttons, and a canvassed collar. My favorite detail is the stitching: If you look closely, you can see small aberrations. It’s wobbles a little, the bartacks at the hem seam are a little sloppy, and they’re not perfectly even—at least compared to contemporary pieces. All this to say that, this is true craftsmanship. It’s made with great care—it’s built like a tank and you should have it for years—but with the unavoidable deviation of the human hand.

Fly Fishing T-Shirt: I can’t say this is all that vintage—although it does feature single-stitch construction and is made in the USA; late 90s most likely—but it does feature a particularly nice graphic and advertising. And it’s a flyfishing shop right across the river from Philadelphia. I figure that if I’ll send it to anyone, I have to send it to you. I hope you enjoy it.

Selvage Bandana: I can’t promise I know how to wear these casually—back pockets seem popular—but they’re handy on the river for keeping sweat out of your eyes or bugs off your neck. It features a selvage edge and a simple yet not too common print.
