There’s this odd line of finding something genuinely related to a subscriber’s life versus inventing a relationship that may not exist. I know that Oliver lives in New Jersey, for example, but I have no idea whether he’s actually been to Jersey City, where he’d find the restaurant advertised on this crewneck sweatshirt. It’s a stretch, perhaps. Then again, he did say he could use a new grey crewneck sweatshirt. I think I did better with the hat.

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for subscribing to Comma, the vintage menswear subscription service! Here’s what you get:

LL Bean Flannel Shirt: I hope this isn’t overload. LL Bean makes a nice flannel shirt, and this one is in your size. Single flap pocket gives it a slightly more refined look than two pocket, and the bright colors will look good through spring. Made in Portugal, which has history enough with flannel that pricier brands advertise Portugese flannel in their online stores.

A Crewneck Sweat: Not a vintage loopwheeled one like that which lost, but a cozy grey fleece crewneck regardless, and it frankly looks unworn. I suppose Jersey City is a far cry from where you are now, but I hope you appreciate the logo. Made in the USA.

Trucker Hat: Seems like you spend more time on saltwater than fresh, based on what you told me, but I hope you go after some smallmouths up in the Appalachian foothills. I have no idea what US Bass is—seems different from B.A.S.S., but you can always pretend you’re just really into Les Claypool or John Pattituci.
